Craving some rss feeds or stock infor right on my blind

Jun 11, 2020 1:36 AM by Discussion: WindowBlinds

Back in the day, say around the 2001-2005 era, WindowBlinds skinners would have all sorts of wild ideas. I mean its not like it doesn't get wild today every once and a while, but back then, it could get super wild. From animated title bars to wild sounds, shapes, whole skin suites, and of course, plug-ins

I think that there is so much potential with was plug-ins, but it doesn't get love these days. Then again I guess it didn't have so much popularity back then either but more people tried it and it worked out well back then.

I personally loved it! I'm trying to remember the names of some WindowBlind skins that had some things going on as an example (If I find them I'll post it below) that I  loved. Some was just ink buttons, others revealed weather for the day or a RSS feed.

So I'm wondering what other people think.

Would yo like to see Windowblinds with plug-ins that show you maybe stock prices you are tracking, news, email alerts?

How do you correct for loops

Jul 11, 2019 7:20 PM by Discussion: Animated Wallpapers

Hello out there in Wincustoland!

Hope everyone is having a great day. I was wondering for those of you who used videos to make loops for Dreamscape, how to you get the ends to match up?

For me I split the video in half, move the last half to the front and use a transition (adorage) to fuse the two together.

I figured since the split part should just auto match up there shouldn't be a problem because the new end of the video was originally cut from the new beginning... but I seem to always have a studder! So frustrating

I take off frames and still studder. Add frames and still studder. what am I doing wrong?

I save it as a windows media file in the hopes it plays well with windows

My computer is 10 years old so that may be a factor. I'm using Corel VideoStudio x10. I do notice on my faster (but 8 year old Dell XPS 12) laptop the studder isn't as visible (but still there).  I save it as a windows media file... is that the issue? Something else?

Any help is appreciated.

I wish it was better on touch screens though

Mar 7, 2016 9:29 AM by Discussion: OS Customization

Hello everyone! It's nice to be back. I've been around since 2001/2 (I can't remeber) and I've seen some things. I used to change the way my desktop looked everyday for at least 2 years, then it was every 2 days... then once a week... now it's more like I'll change my DreamScapes wallpaper every few days or so and that's it. I can now keep a "theme" for months. It might be because I work off of laptops mostly now instead of my desktop.

The main skinning program for me was WindowBlinds... but not as much now.

Windowblinds: It just doesn't change the way things look, it is actually very helpful productivity tool. I personally used (allot) rollup window, always on top, and even the fade to 50 percent transparency. When I just had to have music controls on the windowblinds that was cool too.

I think if a skinner wanted to, they could have windowblinds hyperlink buttons, RSS feed scrolls, show desktop button, open folders, start programs... I can't think of anything else.

This is why I love the program and one day (it will probably take me a year to get good at skinning it) I hope to make some too. I'm a functional kind of guy, but then again I'm kinda artsy too. I've always wanted to make a WindowBlind with Triangles... Can't get more original than triangle WindowBlinds.

But alas... Windowblinds had a flaw

Well it may or may not be a flaw in WindowBlinds. I'm not sure... but I can't really use it on my lapop. Why? Because I love love lve having touch screen laptops and I don't have much screen space. Finding a minimal theme with big buttons for touch screen is hard.

All this writing I guess is to ask: Anyone know of some big button themes I can maybe use for WindowBlinds hat are more touch friendly?

anyone know a good program like Multiplicity I can try???

Feb 29, 2016 9:57 AM by Discussion: Personal Computing

I would have not posted this hea but for whatever reason sending an email to stardock or edge runner keeps bouncing back.

I keep getting an error message saying that my encryption key is incorrect. I go to the primary computer and the encryption key button is faded out. I can't access it for any changes.

Whats odd is that everything worked when I originally installed the program.

What can I do? Also I have version 3.42 KM build but I don't seem to have KVM.

What should I do? Anyone know?

And does anyone know a good program that does what Multiplicity does? if I cant get it to work, I am willing to try something else thats good. It initialy worked and I was like this is perfect but then it stopped working. It was like having all kinds of horse power from one keyboard.

Celebrating the Digital Art and Skinning Community

May 8, 2014 11:22 PM by Discussion: Skinning

Many many many many many moons ago I has a idea (don't remember if I got the idea from what someone here said or not) to come up with a bi-yearly report on the state of the skinning community and digital artists (it was supposed to be timed with the GUI Olympics aka whatever it is called since the Olympics actually notified Stardock to stop calling it 'Olympics")

Life got in the way and as far as I got was maybe like 200+ artists featured but I never published it. I also had a front/first page rendering (if I can find the original image, I'll post it... I do have a link to what I think is an older image: https://www.flickr.com/photos/esourcemagazine/376059352/in/photostream/  ) of featured work that if you clicked on the work, you would see what they did, where to download or buy whatever and any review or history of the work.

The Art and Skin Report would have:

  • Skinners of all types from all sites
  • Wallpaper makers
  • Digital art
  • Interviews and reviews of selected works (all positive reviews... no need for "I hate this art piece")
  • Small section on photography
  • Possibly special addition skins
  • Possible a saved favorites links to classic and popular works.
  • Featured skinners websites (if any) or skinning business sites (if any).
Anybody have any suggestions as to what artist should be shown or what works high-lighted? Post it here.

Thanks for the help!

PS

Man I was pretty crazy back then... I even had a "reporter/host" called DavidLove. I forget what program I was going to use to make this DavidLove character. I think it was a virtual character; just don't remember where. I might try that again lol

Oh and anybody know where Skinner Treetog is? I need permission to try to update a DesktopX (yes I know DesktopX has been decommissioned... man i had so many ideas for that but got to busy to do anything) called "Plava" and maybe port it to ObjectDock, Systmetrix or Rainmeter (or something).

PPS

Most likely I won't be able to finish this project till like next year but it could be possible I can get it done sooner if I have some help. Volunteers anyone?

Hello everyone out there in customization land!

I am wondering if anyone is making a WindowbBlinds theme that has big max/min and exit buttons so I can put it on my mothers commuter as well as mine. For my mom it would make it easier to close stuff and minimize while for me I have a Dell XPS 12 touch screen so having bigger buttons would be helpful (although Microsoft, to their credit, fixed many issues with missing the buttons when you touch them)

>>> Also if anyone knows of current WindowBilnds themes that have bg buttons let me know. At this point I can only use UIS 0 themes so that the buttons are large.

PS

if you are making a WindowBlinds skin with big buttons, could you add a roll-up button?

What about installing an update; does it usually take 24+ hoursto install an update?

Anyone here try this? What was your experience? Did you make your own website?

I'm trying to decide whether I should do it or not.

On TechCrunch they were talking about this application that sits on your desktop and it filters info from many sources.

Here is the link:

Link to story:

I'm just wondering cause I do not know that much about coding (just enough to do simple C+ and VB) but I saw on TechCrunch and I thought, "Can't DesktopX do that?"
